Beef Chile Verde is the Grand Champ with 3 wins! Chicken Chile Verde was an outstanding People's Choice last year, and we are bringing it back as our Judges Entry. Then, for the first time this year El Rincon presents our newest champion, Turkey Chile Verde! I can honestly tell you that any one of our three entries is a winner. However, if you want taste that just BEGS for more, then our Chicken Chile Verde is the new Grand Champion. Yes, El Rincon knows the competition is tough this year. But I, and Chefs Chaly and Luis are very confident in our Chile Verde! We gave it our best shot! El Rincon's Green Chili was really good, made just the same as past years, but the judges had a different standard. We didn't win the Judges Award or People's Choice in this years Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off. To us it seems some people can't get Mom's Chili from childhood off their minds or taste buds. But our standard for Southwestern "Arizona Style Green Chili" was a winner for all El Rincon fans, old and new. We want to thank our fans for their great words of encouragement and especially the "wow that's good" we heard from so many of you.

El Rincon Chefs Chaly and Luis worked hard for days in advance to bring three different chili's to the competition. Our winning El Rincon Chili Verde with Beef was the center of our entries in the contest. We also served our "Mango Black Bean Cold Green Chili," which was a great hit with vegetarians and people who think they don't like it hot. A new entry this year was our "Red Chili with Pork," made the old fashioned way with course ground pork and blended red chili pods. The Red Chili has a smooth, full bodied pork/chili flavor you don't ever get with chili powder. Then, of course, we served Mango Sorbet to cleanse the palette between tastings. We know this was one of our secrets to winning the last two years, but was copied by several competitors this year lessening our edge.

We take great pride in our part to help the "Imagination Library" for the Rotary Club of Sedona. The library gets a big boost from the record number of chili tasters who heard El Rincon was the restaurant to taste, because we won the last two years in a row. We are humble and know you can't win them all; however, in losing this year we learned valuable insight about winning next year. So, what can we say? "Congratulations to the winners," and look out! El Rincon Chefs Chaly & Luis Bring Home The Chili! Twice!

Congratulations! Chaly and Luis! Our husband and wife chef team, at El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano. For two years in a row they have bought home the grand prize trophy, Rotary's "Big Red Chili." Our Chili Verde is a traditional Mexican food recipe that Chaly and Luis have made all their own. They hand roast the different ingredients to give it the winning taste. Winning out over more than 15 different chili recipe's from 11 of Sedona's best restaurants is no easy task. Our winning Chili Verde is served everyday at El Rincon. Come in a taste for yourself. Chili Cook-Off and Cinco de Mayo - Tomorrow!

El Rincon wants to invite everyone to the Cinco de Mayo Celebration held Saturday, May 5th, in Tlaquepaque,  11:00 AM TO 3:00 PM.

At the same event is the 2012 Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off

We won 2011 and we are defiantly out to win again in 2012!

Our chili is from authentic Mexican recipes, full of southwest flavors with a deep, earthy delicious pause before the hotness.

We have 4 kinds this year:

  • Green Chili and Beef - Medium hot, but not too hot, for ordinary folk.
  • Green Chili and Beef - Steamy for the daring.
  • Green Chili and Pork - a traditional Mexican recipe, it's steamy.
  • The fourth is a surprise, you will just have to come and taste it. It's absolutely delicious and get this, it's served cold.

You can bet! We plan to win in 2012!
