     El Rincon Restaurant Mexicano in Tlaquepaque celebrates its 40th Anniversary in April, 2016! 40 years of serving you our timeless "Arizona Style Mexican Cuisine." 40 years of consistently serving over 3.5 million hungry customers a unique regional cuisine that originated from the "Wickedest town in the West," Jerome, Arizona. 40 years of keeping our timeless menu fresh and innovative, but true to its cultural origins. Origins that began 127 years ago when the United Verde Mine in Jerome brought riches and mayhem to the Verde Valley when cultures collided as Jerome burst to a population of 15,000 people practically overnight.  The Mine was a cultural melting pot as it brought workers from as far away as Mexico, China, and Europe, as well as, close by Yavapai, Navajo and Hopi Nations. However, the enduring roots of Arizona Style Mexican Cuisine mostly lie in the blending of the Mexican and Navajo cultures.

     Arizona Style starts with serving Sopapillas full size, like Indian Fry Bread. Then we use the full size Sopapilla as the crust for a pizza we call the Navajo Pizza. On the Navajo Reservation they're called Navajo Tacos. Using the same Sopapilla masa we roll it around Beef, Chicken, Shrimp, Green Chili, or ??? creating the unique El Rincon "Arizona Style" Chimichanga. No other Mexican restaurant uses real hand-rolled masa to make their Chimichangas. Our Navajo Pizza and Arizona Style Chimichangas are the reasons El Rincon is so special and unique. We bring you a true Regional Cuisine, a blend of traditional Mexican and native Navajo, not available anywhere else in the world. For 40 years it's been our pleasure to serve you the finest, freshest, homemade “Arizona Style Mexican Cuisine” that can be made.

     El Rincon will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary with an eight day Fiesta El Rincon!  The Fiesta takes place daily, Sunday, April 17th through Sunday, April 24th, 2016.  With music everyday in the courtyard from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. featuring the band ”Mariachi Azteca de Oro" and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. the Gypsy Flamenco music of "Gaetano." The Fiesta includes food specials featuring Green Chile Navajo Pizzas and Filet Mignon Chimichangas. Drink specials include Mexican beers and our world famous Margarita Magnifica!

Enjoy Live "Flamenco Music in the Courtyard" at El Rincon

El Rincon celebrates "Flamenco Music in the Courtyard" featuring master guitarist, Gaetano and friends.  Flamenco music performances are inspired from Spain and Mexico. Gaetano will play the Spanish Guitar in the courtyard in front of El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano in Tlaquepaque. Enjoy tapas and your favorite beverage from El Rincon's Patio Bar.  Gaetano plays 5:30 to 7:30 pm, every Monday and Tuesday for the summer months, weather permitting. Season starts Monday-Tuesday, May 20 and 21, 2013.

Flamenco Guitarist "Gaetano" will be head lining and performing authentic Gypsy style Flamenco through soulful songs and fiery guitar. Gaetano, who was raised in Seville Spain brings a charismatic and traditional approach to the Flamenco genre. Gaetano will also be presenting special guest artists in flamenco music and dance. Flamenco music performances are free and presented to you by El Rincon Restaurant. "Music and food are two of life's pleasures, " says Demetrio, "please join us and allow us to serve you."

At the Chili Cook-Off we heard, "Wow! that's good!" so many times...

We gave it our best shot! El Rincon's Green Chili was really good, made just the same as past years, but the judges had a different standard. We didn't win the Judges Award or People's Choice in this years Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off. To us it seems some people can't get Mom's Chili from childhood off their minds or taste buds. But our standard for Southwestern "Arizona Style Green Chili" was a winner for all El Rincon fans, old and new. We want to thank our fans for their great words of encouragement and especially the "wow that's good" we heard from so many of you.

El Rincon Chefs Chaly and Luis worked hard for days in advance to bring three different chili's to the competition. Our winning El Rincon Chili Verde with Beef was the center of our entries in the contest. We also served our "Mango Black Bean Cold Green Chili," which was a great hit with vegetarians and people who think they don't like it hot. A new entry this year was our "Red Chili with Pork," made the old fashioned way with course ground pork and blended red chili pods. The Red Chili has a smooth, full bodied pork/chili flavor you don't ever get with chili powder. Then, of course, we served Mango Sorbet to cleanse the palette between tastings. We know this was one of our secrets to winning the last two years, but was copied by several competitors this year lessening our edge.

We take great pride in our part to help the "Imagination Library" for the Rotary Club of Sedona. The library gets a big boost from the record number of chili tasters who heard El Rincon was the restaurant to taste, because we won the last two years in a row. We are humble and know you can't win them all; however, in losing this year we learned valuable insight about winning next year. So, what can we say? "Congratulations to the winners," and look out! Congratulations! Chaly and Luis! Our husband and wife chef team, at El Rincon Restaurante Mexicano. For two years in a row they have bought home the grand prize trophy, Rotary's "Big Red Chili." Our Chili Verde is a traditional Mexican food recipe that Chaly and Luis have made all their own. They hand roast the different ingredients to give it the winning taste. Winning out over more than 15 different chili recipe's from 11 of Sedona's best restaurants is no easy task. Our winning Chili Verde is served everyday at El Rincon. Come in a taste for yourself. Chili Cook-Off and Cinco de Mayo - Tomorrow!

El Rincon wants to invite everyone to the Cinco de Mayo Celebration held Saturday, May 5th, in Tlaquepaque,  11:00 AM TO 3:00 PM.

At the same event is the 2012 Great Sedona Chili Cook-Off

We won 2011 and we are defiantly out to win again in 2012!

Our chili is from authentic Mexican recipes, full of southwest flavors with a deep, earthy delicious pause before the hotness.

We have 4 kinds this year:

  • Green Chili and Beef - Medium hot, but not too hot, for ordinary folk.
  • Green Chili and Beef - Steamy for the daring.
  • Green Chili and Pork - a traditional Mexican recipe, it's steamy.
  • The fourth is a surprise, you will just have to come and taste it. It's absolutely delicious and get this, it's served cold.

You can bet! We plan to win in 2012!
